Little Princess
ByI have a young lady (elementary school). Who thinks she is quite the little princess and she is on her throne and she will do what she wants when she wants! How do I get her to do her work using your system?? She procrastrinates when doing her work, meaning, she tries to make it look like she is doing something but when her work is turned in next to nothing is done!!!!

Agree with Patt. Teacher from Ireland at High sch. have Elementary experience and detaining students from extra curricular time no matter what age will hurt them and learn the consequences of inappropriate behaviour. They may not have bounderies at home but they will learn them at school if implemented fairly and consistenly on a whole school approach. We are starting to see the impact of non implementation of adult set appropriate boundaries initiated in the home in schools in Ireland over the last few years too much divaesque mentality/behaviour initiated from the home at a young age and filtering into the school system. It needs to nipped in the bud by teachers if parents are willing to do so. We are after all acting in ‘Locus Parentus’ for these young unguided pupils. Secondary Teacher from Co. Sligo Ireland.
Hold her in from recess or any free time she has until her work is done or she complies with the rules. This may mean giving up your time or sending her to another teachers class (perhaps older children, perhaps the younger ones). I work in middle school and have found that holding students in when we have something fun going on if they owe me work has really cut down on missing work. I assign lunch detentions, also. They get their lunch, come back with me to class, work until the last 5 – 10 minutes, then eat their lunch in silence with me in the classroom.
I know all this sounds harsh, but I really think this system of Craig’s is wonderful for any age. I am a veteran teacher and had to start from scratch this year with one group of students I have. Thanks to this system I have regained control of my classroom without the drama.
